Within Dubai

Metro

Two main lines (Red and Green) connect most key districts, malls, and business areas. Clean, reliable, and fully air-conditioned. Students use the Nol Card, which works across metro, buses, trams, and water taxis.

Buses

Extensive network covering residential zones and Academic City, complementing metro routes.

Trams

Operates in Dubai Marina and JBR, linking residential towers with metro stations and beachfront areas.

Taxis & Ride-hailing

Widely used and affordable by international standards. Careem and Uber are popular, especially at night or in areas without metro access.

Domestic & International

Intercity Bus

RTA long-distance buses connect Dubai with Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, and other UAE cities, offering affordable regional travel for students and young professionals.

Airport

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is one of the world’s busiest airports and is located around 15–25 minutes from central Dubai by metro or taxi. The Red Line of the Dubai Metro connects the airport directly with Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, and Dubai Marina.

Metro & Regional Travel:

Dubai Metro links key areas of the city, while regional coaches provide access to neighbouring emirates. There is currently no national passenger rail network, though Etihad Rail is under development.

Cost of Living: Shared flats typically cost AED 2,500–4,000/month, studios AED 5,000–7,000. Meals average AED 30–60, coffee around AED 20, beer AED 45 (served only in licensed venues). Weekly groceries usually total AED 300–500.
